It’s a large technology company and has significant funding to invest. But I see that Apple doesn’t own or co-own a submarine cable with another company, and I tried searching for it on Submarine Cable Map, but nothing came up.

Apple has its own servers, but also uses third-party servers for its services like iCloud. Meta has its own submarine cables, because Apple doesn’t own a submarine cable or doesn’t share ownership.

That’s like asking why General Motors doesn’t own its own interstate highway system.

It’s a totally different industry that just happens to be adjacent.

The bulk of apple’s business is selling consumer electronic hardware. no submarine cables needed for that.

they do some cloud services, but not nearly the volume that requires meta-level infrastructure.

Apple doesn’t need submarine cables for now because it doesn’t require a large amount of data, unlike Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and internet providers, who do.

If they do decide to install a submarine cable, whether they own it or co-own it, it will be because of the amount of data they need and want a cable that prioritizes them.
