Many Ukrainians outside parliament – the Rada - disagree with the decision. Critics say the law will severely undermine the Nabu and Sap’s authority and effectiveness.

The creation of Nabu and Sap was one of the requirements set by the European Commission and International Monetary Fund more than a decade ago in order to move towards a relaxation of visa restrictions between Ukraine and the EU.

    Maybe I’m uninformed, but this seems out of chararcter. Its seems more in chararcter for the current US administration. I’d wonder if they are pushing this in exchange for the military aid?

      This seems like one of those news that only make sense after some time has passed and other events are unfolding. Maybe Selensky has some skeletons in the closet (there’s a war after all), maybe Trump is the usual child or some EU politicians are secretly mad about some oligarch, maybe it’s an internal power play…
