You are absolutely correct: the current Trump-friendly government would not have acted this way without wide peaceful protest on all channels & iRL.

But I feel compelled to add: this sort of very mild criticism of Israel - mild enough to let them carry on with their expansionism - is where we were pre Trump/Netanyahu. For decades.
