Unless the democracy has systemic flaws that allow it to be captured by minority rule, and that minority voting block disenfranchises enough of the opposition to take all power from the majority.

We were just in Vermont and Burlington had a lot of no-mow zones and lots of butterfly gardens in the areas we biked.
We saw a lot of monarchs earlier (seemed more than previous years) in the summer too, but it got super dry and we haven’t seen as many lately. And also our observations are purely anecdotal and unscientific.

NYs Governor was a Democratic state rep and lieutenant governor for Cuomo (which hasn’t aged well, but is nothing like that dipshit mayor Adams).
It’s a contribution thing. He contributed enough to society to deserve to not worry about money for the rest of his life. It’s rare though since we have a bunch of billionaires who skim the rewards from huge swaths of the population who also have contributed their part.
The financialization of retirement is a huge part of the problem for the middle class (or what’s left of it, upper-lower-class is probably more accurate). We have to invest in these assholes in order to save for retirement. The harder workers in services, laborers, and fields don’t even get that.
Within 100 miles of the border or coast, your rights are way less.
You’re gonna end up detained no matter what you do if they want to detain you. And they’ve already disappeared plenty of people without due process.
