  • ranked by Speedtest.net data

I have no other ideas to collect that data better but i’m sure that does not give a good generic view of the reality. Every tech I know in Sweden uses bredbandskollen. Even if an end-users is asked if they did test speed and delay, the site was bredbandskollen in nearly 100% of the cases if they had done so. Therefore I dare say speedtest is missing data and that list has no statistical relevance outside the scope of the speedtest user population.

Also, measuring speedtest result tells us about the subscription users took out. It does not tell anything about availability. I can get Gbit here, but subscribed to 100/100 because my average is low

  • I think you may be confusing “instead of” with “as well as”

Nope, never said instead either ;)

While it’s an abandoned industrial site I’d like to point out to the Kreidsee, in Hemmoor in Germany which also is an abandoned quarry (1862 - 1976) which is filled with water. Today is’t used for deep diving and deco training and has it filled itself with all sorts of underwater life too (yes, i’ve seen it first hand).

So don’t get me wrong, I’m not against it, I’m just wondering about the effects this solution could/might have. I’d expect the higher humidity levels directly above the pond will have (negative) effect on the live expectancy of the panels too. So i’m just questioning if it’s a good idea in the long run, but I guess time will tell. (Would been nice if they left a pit uncovered so we have something to compare it with but I doubt that)

  • Yeah, would a panel farm at a heigh sheep can graze beneath not be lower impact?

That’s not what I said. I know about advantages of water cooling them, but i’m just wondering if this not might come with an un-expected ‘pricetag’ at some point in the future.

How does it compare to an alternative as mounting them over a parking lot (or even some roads)? Yes, the panels would be less efficient, but you don’t need to transport the electricity far and there would be savings on airco usage of the vehicles. Would it also be beneficial for the temp in the area not having the sun scorching the road but the panels which are air cooled at the top and bottom ?

  • I heard it can completely crash your system if your a noob.

You can crash anything if you try. Been there, done that. Just go ahead and start using it. Just keep backups which you always do, regardless the O/S and situation. (pro tip: TEST RESTORING THE BACKUPS)

Maybe make an extra backup before you try something and you’ll live. You could also use a separate partition to store your files so you can re-install without touching your data. Make that partition size ‘recognizable’ (t.ex. the biggest by far and label it) so you won’t mess up the partition selection when you re-install. And NO don’t ask me how I know!
