I just watched a movie called The Life of Chuck. At one point in the movie, due to failing infrastructure, people were just sitting in their cars, not getting anywhere because traffic was gridlocked.
Eventually, people abandoned their cars, dejected, and walked home. After that, people seemed to have concluded that any kind of transportation was now impossible. Nobody in this movie ever considered the option of riding a fucking bike! Not a single bike in this movie once cars were off the table.
People are so locked into thinking that a car is their prosthetic limb and that they’re disabled without it. Fuck cars.
I realize that more expensive fuel for transport of goods means more expensive everything. We need fuel and we need a plan for a transition to renewable energy. Hopefully these refineries shutting down will provide an impetus.
