I started with pop!_os and their pop_shell on GNOME which also has tiling, and that’s been fun :3…
At the moment pop is on the bench for me in terms of distro recommendations tho, cause of their work on COSMIC making it a bit behind, and possibly a bit unstable in the future
(Though COSMIC will be replacing TWMs for me, as it’s imo a nice fresh spin on tiling with the window groups, which to me makes it the smoothest tiling experience even in the current alpha)
but ideally I’d like a distro that’s a bit more Linux-y.
Im not sure how you’d even quantify that? I mean… there’s a lot of variation in linux, so there’s not a “standard” linux experience… DEs like KDE or cinnamon are more Windows-y, and ones like GNOME or Pantheon are more MacOS-y. There’s TWMs which to me is what makes the linux experience, but those aren’t for beginners and I wouldn’t recommend you start with that
Really it doesn’t matter what enviroment you use, so honestly im gonna agree with the other comment and just say use one of the big begginer distros like mint cinnamon lol
I mean… I wouldn’t watch a playthrough side by side while playing, but watching a playthrough of a game up to the point I played to after im done playing for the day is a pretty common thing for me :3
It’s a different experience but I enjoy both
I have it on grid view :3… just cause it can fit a lot more files into the same screen space
In list view I have to scroll to see all the files in my home folder, and in grid view it only takes like half of the available space, if I have the app maximized

Individual devs seem to generally manage better I think :3. It’s once the companies expand is that stuff starts going awry

Ye :3… honestly as someone who doesn’t use that many extensions other than the pop-shell ones, im not too worried about the extensions, since basically all of that is coming as a base part of COSMIC’s interface… I think the only extension that im hoping gets a COSMIC applet soon after release is KDEconnect lol

Yeah :3. The steam deck layout honestly looks really good, and if valve does release a controller featuring everything it has it’s probably gonna be a buy from me
At the moment most of the controllers on the market would require either giving up the features my current one has, shelling out hundreds of euros for a couple of extra buttons, or literally getting the same deal, a steam deck style controller would offer quite a bit more and it would hopefully be more reasonably priced than the “pro” controllers
I love the touchpad as an auxiliary input, and in that regard it does a lot more than a d-pad, but for any games where you want it as a primary input it wasn’t optimal, yeah… currently I use a ds4 controller and having a touchbar on that is great with steam input tho, cause it can just do so much (looks at my 500 minecraft mods with all the keybinds), it can be annoying sometimes accidentally hitting the sticks cause of how it’s positioned tho (and also no paddles) so it would still be cool to see a steam deck type variant controller featuring the touchpads and all the other inputs you’d expect :3
The steam controller wasn’t for me (the lack of a 2nd stick and a d-pad to a lesser extent were dealbreakers for me), but I do hope valve releases a standalone steamdeck style controller :3 we had those leaks and whatnot a while back, and it certainly has everything I’d want
Companies would still be cutting flour with chalk if they had their way. “It’s limiting blah blah blah” that’s the point you corpos, consumer rights are about the consumer not the bottom line
