It is unclear why the Trump administration seeks to end the missions.

No. It’s really not. A big clue is right there in the last paragraph.

They are the only two federal satellite missions that were designed and built specifically to monitor planet-warming greenhouse gases.

Trump firmly believes in the head-in-the-sand style of disaster preparation. Remember when he suggested that if we don’t do testing we won’t have as many positive Covid cases? This is the same thing. We won’t have to worry about global warming if we make sure we don’t do any testing that might notice it’s actually happening.

This is how life on earth, as we know it, will end … from the quiet whispers of billionaires reaching the ears of a dementia-addled president, hinting that certain carbon monitoring (and weather monitoring, and ocean monitoring, etc) is no longer needed.

I’ve found driving to be much less stressful after painting my windows black so I won’t see all the other scary cars on the road.

Glad I use Sentinel 2 imagery for NDVI, that’s not going anywhere. The Europeans aren’t insane yet.

Yeah, though there are different instruments available on US platforms. Pretty fraught if youre doing something where nobody else has an equivalent sensor

I don’t doubt it. But as far as farmers go, I’ve not heard of anyone using much more than NDVI, and that just requires the NIR and red bands, which you could even get from Landsat.
